Running of the Elk – Stage 3 of Tour de FIT complete
Gorgeous morning in Elk Grove for the 2nd Annual Running of the Elk Half Marathon and Thrive 5K at the Elk Grove Auto Mall. Daniel Renahan, 24 of Vallejo, was the half marathon overall winner in 1:14:24.82, bettering the course record from 2012 by over four minutes. The women’s half marathon race was won by 31-year-old Emily Mah-Nakanishi, of Sacramento, in 1:31:33.77 – a time that set the new women’s half marathon course record by 45 seconds. The top local finisher from Elk Grove was Justin Lau, in 1:26:07.63. Complete race results are posted here.
In the 5K, Paul Baines of El Cerrito crossed the line first in 17:55.09, which represents an average pace per mile of 5 minutes and 47 seconds. This too represents a course record by about 90 seconds. The 5K women’s race saw Laura Sharp, 28 years old from Sacramento, across first in 20:24.
The top relay team in the half marathon was “You Just Got Swaggajacked”, in 1:21:57.
2,500 runners and walkers attended the event, which was a fundraiser for the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation.
