The Positive Energy Kids Triathlon incorporates exercise into a fun event. Participation, a positive experience and a sense of accomplishment are what our young athletes walk away with after the event. At this event, our goal is for every finisher to feel a sense of triumph when they cross the finish line.

No experience is needed!

The kids triathlon will be held in conjunction with a 5K Run/Walk, which will be held first at 7:45 a.m. This 3.1 mile event is open to all ages, and entry to this event includes a tshirt, finisher medal and eligibility for age group awards. If you’re up to the challenge to taking on both events, be sure to register for both in the same transaction as that will deduct $5.00 from your entry fee. Read more about the 5K Run/Walk here.

Late Registration will be accepted at Packet Pick Up (2:30-5:30PM, June 23 at Arroyo Pool) and Race Morning starting at 7:00 AM (Arroyo Pool).

Registration is now open! Early entry is $30 for individuals and includes a t-shirt, finisher medal, commemorative bib number and post race sno cone.

Register online here: https://runsignup.com/Race/CA/Davis/PositiveEnergyKidsTriathlon  (opens March 15) and we will see you on June 23!

Packet Pick Up will be held on Saturday, June 22 at Arroyo Park from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. During this time, runners, walkers and triathletes may pick up their bib number and t-shirts.

We encourage those who are local and participating in the triathlon to pick up on Saturday if possible. This will give you the opportunity to skip this step race morning starting at 7:00 a.m.

  • T-shirt: Each child will receive a t-shirt with their triathlon entry. We are often asked if they are required to wear this shirt. The answer is that you do not have to wear this shirt, but many kids do.
  • Bib number: You will receive a bib number and four safety pins. On the back of the bib number is a timing chip – do not remove this. Pin the bib number to the FRONT of the t-shirt or shorts that your child will wear after the swimming leg. Children must wear the bib during the bike and run on the front of their body. The course monitors need to be able to see what color bib they are wearing in order to accurately direct them on the route. It is also enables your child’s time to be determined.

Wave Start times are determined by your child’s age, division entered, and gender.

The 2019 Wave Sheet is located here. You may want to print a copy of this and bring it with you to the event, or save a copy of it to your phone.

Bib assignments for entries received by 3:30 PM 6/20/19 are posted here.

How to use this information:

  1. Look up your child in the bib assignment file and note their bib number.
  2. View the wave start time sheet and using the bib number + your child’s division, you can determine their start time.
  3. Arrive at the event at least one hour prior to your child’s wave time.
  4. All children must start in their assigned wave. We suggest being in the pool area and ready 15 minutes prior to their assigned wave.

Picking up your child’s bib number and t-shirt:
You can pick up bibs and shirts on Saturday at Arroyo Park from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. If those times do not work for your schedule, we also offer race morning pick up starting at 7am and continuing through 9:45 am. Arrive a little earlier on event day if you need to pick up your child’s bib and t-shirt.

What to do with the bib:

Each child will be issued a bib. This is their assigned number for the event and how we will identify them throughout the morning. The bib number will need to be worn on the front of the child’s body (usually this is by pinning it to the front of a t-shirt) during the bike and the run legs. If you pick up your child’s bib on Saturday, this allows you time to pin the bib to the front of the shirt the night before the event and have it ready to go for Sunday.

The color of the bib is used to properly direct children on the bike and the run courses. If volunteers cannot see the bib, such as if it is worn on their back, or on their waist or leg (during the bike) it makes it difficult for the athletes to be properly directed. Please ensure your child’s bib is worn visibly on their chest. The bib number also has a timing chip on the back. Please leave it there. These are used to determine his/her finish time. If the bib number is not worn as he/she crosses the finish line, your child will not receive a finish time.

When you arrive in the morning on race day, once you have your child’s bib, your first stop will be the transition area “main entrance.” Here, volunteers will ‘body mark’ your child by writing his/her bib number on their arm with a sharpie. This is so that they can be identified in the pool area and we can ensure that they start in the right wave/heat. After being bodymarked, your child can proceed inside the transition area to the section that is labeled with his/her division. For example, the parent/child division for 3-6 years is labeled as such; the 11-12 division is labeled, ’11-12′. He/she will rack his/her bike in the bike rack, and leave their helmet, tennis shoes, socks, t-shirt with bib pinned, and towel. That way it will be ready for them once they exit the swim.

Please note that parents are not allowed in the transition area at any time unless they are either a) participating on a parent/child team; or b) the child is 6 years or younger. We will provide a wristband with children’s packets for the aforementioned divisions.

4-6 Years Individual Competitive Division: The competitive division for 4-6 year old boys and girls is designed such that your child completes the entire event with no assistance. One parent may enter the transition area when you arrive in the morning and help your athlete properly rack his/her bike. We will provide a wristband for entry. However, during the event, the child may not receive assistance either in the pool area, transition area, or on the bike/run routes. The only exception to this is where the children mount and dismount their bikes (outside the bike in/out tents). You may be there (which is outside the transition area) to help him/her on or off their bike safely if they need help.

Parent/Child Division Notes: Parents will also receive a bib number to wear during the event. If you plan to bike with your child during the bike leg, please be sure to bring a helmet with you. Parents may also choose to run alongside their athlete during the bike portion – this is up to your discretion based on the biking skills of your child.
