November is finally here – or as we like to call it, ‘Turkey Trot month.’  The days are still warm, the nights are cool, the leaves are changing, and we’re putting the final touches on our biggest day of the year – Saturday, November 22nd.

We know you have a lot of choices this month for Thanksgiving trot’s, and we thank you for your continued support of the Davis Turkey Trot – and for pre-registering. Signing up early not only helps us better gauge how many medals and t-shirts to order, how many volunteers to recruit, how much food and water we’ll need, but it saves you $$! Win-win for us both.

Training for the Davis Turkey Trot

As you get ready for race day, below are some tips that might help ensure your race day is as smooth as possible.

✅ Keep weekly mileage increases to no more than 10% per week
✅ Aim to run/walk 3-5 times per week, with one workout being a “long run.” This will help build your stamina and mental toughness
✅ Most of your runs should be at an easy, conversational pace; incorporate speed work (sprints or faster paced shorter runs) once or twice a week.
✅ Do warm-ups and cool-downs
✅ Practice running at least once or twice at the same time of day as the race, if possible
✅ If possible, train in varying weather – it may rain or be foggy on race day, and you’ll want to have a sense of how your body responds to that and what gear/clothing will work best for you
✅ Include cross-training (such as walking, stationary bike, cycling) and strength training if you are able

Our Davis Turkey Trot Race Ambassadors

Most race updates that we put out that aren’t by email will be via our Instagram page – so be sure to follow us at @a_change_of_pace.

If you’re already following us, you know that we have 12 amazing Race Ambassadors for this year’s Turkey Trot! They have all run or walked the Turkey Trot many times in the past and will be participating again this year.

They were selected for their joy and passion for being physically active, positivity and encouragement toward others, and ability to share their experiences and advice through their Instagram pictures, reels, videos and stories.

One of the goals of the Turkey Trot is to cultivate a sense of shared community around running, walking, and other types of movement. One of the ways we have seen that done effectively is through social media. We encourage you to check out our Ambassadors profiles and follow their journeys as they prepare for and join us for race day!

Additional Resources

We will send you further communication before race day with more details like parking info, post-race activities, etc.
