It's American Heart Month....
… a perfect time to share some tips to keep your heart ♥️ happy 🥰
Physical ♥️ Health
Regular exercise, including running and walking, has numerous benefits for hearth health(1)(2), including:
- reducing cholesterol
- lower blood pressure
- help maintain a healthy weight
- strengthening of the heart muscle
“Cardio” – aerobic exercise that gets you breathing harder and increases your heart rate – has numerous measurable physical benefits, and lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease is a big one.
Participating in a running / walking event can be a pre-selected goal after weeks or months of commitment to a heart healthy plan.
📅 Our Next event: February 23 – Davis Stampede 2K, 5K, 10K, Half Mar.
📅 Down the road: March 29 – Lucky Run 2K, 5K, 7K, 10K, Kids Run
Schedule a Happy ♥️ Day
Making a conscious choice to plan fun activities – one that we’re especially fond of is gathering a group of friends and participating in an organized run/walk – will contribute to feelings of overall happiness, not to mention:
- help reduce stress and anxiety, plus provide other mental health benefits. 😌
- crossing a finish line creates a release endorphins, sense of accomplishment, and increased feelings of confidence and self-worth 💥
- it will encourage you to get outside and enjoy some fresh air, sunshine (vitamin D!) and meet new people or reconnect with friends/family 🫶
I ♥️ ... Routines?
Set yourself up for success by creating a routine and sticking to it.
Just like parents make routines for children, teachers design routines for students, and employers create routines for their workers, routines are important in our everyday lives(1)(2)(3). They contribute to efficiency, understood expectations, reduced stress and anxiety, and free up mental space to focus on other tasks.
Creating an exercise routine helps ensure you will keep with it, and exercising regularly helps ensure your efforts for physical heart health and emotional heart health are met.
Our NorCal Tour de FIT series is aimed at helping you create an exercise routine from February to September, and committing to it.
The series is comprised of four events – Davis Stampede (2/23), Lucky Run (3/29), Davis Moonlight Run (7/12), and the Davis Labor Day Run (9/1) and is completely FREE to join.
If you join the tour, and complete all four events (you will need to register and pay the entry fee for each event) you will receive the FREE Tour bonus medal AND tour t-shirton September 1.
Sign up for the Tour de FIT by March 29 (last day to join) and commit to a healthy routine here.
As a sidenote: Many of you have inquired how you can still participate if you can’t make one of the events. For all of these races, we offer a VIRTUAL option which ‘counts’ toward your participation in the event.
